Week 2 -9/15/15- What’s right (and wrong) with current agriculture?

Hey Foodies!

Hope this week is going well for you! We had a great session on Tuesday and we were so happy to hear all of your unique insights on agriculture!

  • Class Recap (Lecturer: Vicky)

  • What is Agriculture?

  • How did it come to be?

  • History its the development, the shifts and growth

  • Why should we care?

  • Some important concerns: yield/efficiency, space saving, water usage

  • SO MANY problems!!! ex) pesticides

  • Alternatives?

Interesting discussions to be continued…

  • Waste: Where is the most waste coming from? Can we blame consumerism? Though some restaurants are fined for having more landfill than compost, the processed food and restaurant businesses are some of the biggest sources of waste!

  • How to help? Imperfect grocery section, composting. Stay tuned for our guest speaker from Imperfect Produce!!

  • The blog and photos are updated weekly, check them out! http://calfoodsystem.wix.com/decal

Please email us back with any topics/issues/people you would like to discuss in class or just share with everyone!
